New Building Codes Become Effective January 1, 2017 –

Every three years, the State adopts new codes to establish uniform standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings, electrical systems, plumbing systems, mechanical systems, and fire and life safety systems.  Beginning on January 1, 2017, the City of Alameda will begin to enforce the new 2016 California Building Standards Codes as required by State law.  All permit submittals beginning January 1, 2017 must comply with the new 2016 codes.  The 2016 codes consist of 13 parts and are available online here.  


About the Permit Center

The Permit Center is the central location for obtaining Planning, Building, Fire, Engineering, and Special Events permits.   Permit Center staff assists customers through every aspect of the permitting process from initial questions and preapplication meetings to inspections and final certificate of occupancy.

Monday - Thursday:  7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  (Last Call at 3:00 p.m. for walk-in applications)*

Schedule a Building Inspection

To schedule a building inspection, please call (510) 747-6830 between 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday at least two business days in advance of the desired inspection date.   During the summer months, it is advisable to schedule inspections at least 10 days in advance due to the busy construction season.



Use ePermits to look up permit history, permit status, outstanding fees, plan check correction comments, review pending project documents, and inspection results.  Permit receipts and reports are also available.  Licensed contractors can also obtain simple permits online by first registering for an account via ePermits.
