Ofc. Abenoja awarded Medal of Merit

In the early afternoon of May 13th, Officer Eric Abenoja responded to a call of an unresponsive infant. The infant was not breathing, but she did have a pulse. Officer Abenoja began CPR by administering rescue breaths. As a result, the infant began to breathe. Despite his efforts, the infant was still unresponsive to sound or touch and was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Oakland by the Alameda Fire Department. The infant was medically treated and was later released to her very grateful parents.

A thorough investigation was conducted and there were no signs of abuse or neglect.

In a ceremony conducted on July 23, 2014, Officer Abenoja was presented with the Departmental Medal of Merit. This award is given to members of the Department who, while serving in an official capacity, distinguish themselves by meritorious service. Officer Abenoja’s expeditious response to this call and immediate action, along with his ability to call upon his training in a stressful situation make him worthy of this award.
