Working to Reduce Vehicle Thefts

As part of our work to prevent car thefts, the Alameda Police Department has partnered with Hyundai Motor America and Kia America to provide free steering wheel locks to owners of Hyundai and Kia vehicles without an engine immobilizer (key-start-only cars). Free steering wheel locks are available at the Alameda Police Department located at 1555 Oak Street. Supplies are limited and will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

To help further support the security of your vehicles, Hyundai has released a glass-break sensor security kit and is currently developing software updates to enhance vehicle security. To inquire about your vehicle’s immobilizer, please contact your local Hyundai or Kia dealership.
