NOTICE TO RESIDENTS
Miller Sweeney Bridge Project
Specification No. 2343

Dear Resident:

Alameda County has awarded the contract to construct new dolphin piles in the tidal canal underneath the Miller Sweeney Bridge (Fruitvale Ave.) to protect the bridge pier as well as constructing a new access pier in the south east corner (Alameda Side) of the Miller Sweeney Bridge. Lastly, the old cable tower at the north west corner (Oakland Side) of the High Street Bridge will be removed as well.

The improvements will be done in stages and all the work will be performed from floating barges in the tidal canal with minimal impact to the surface streets. First stage will be removal of the old dolphin piles with a long reach excavator and replacing them with our pile driving equipment by driving 18 piles. Second stage will be the removal of the cable tower at the High Street bridge with the long reach excavator. The third stage will be the construction of the access pier and that will consist of pile driving 21 piles, with a new pier constructed on top of said 21 piles. The final stage will be the installation of 4 fender piles underneath the bridge using only a crane.

We will try to minimize your inconvenience; however, parking will be prohibited during some of the construction activities. NO PARKING signs will be posted in the affected areas to inform you of the work and their dates. All parked vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Construction activities will commence on 6/21/21 and is scheduled to be completed by 11/30/21 or earlier. Work will take place between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM with occasional operations taking place until 7:00 PM due to tidal work. During the pile driving operations it will be noisy and your patience during this construction period is greatly appreciated.

For comments or questions regarding the construction of this project, please contact me or the owner’s representative Greg L. Hilst at 510-670-5235.

Thank you,
