Just before 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 15, the Alameda Police Department responded to the intersection of Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Coral Sea Street for a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motorist. Upon arrival, officers located a 59-year-old woman in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel transported her to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver, a 70-year-old man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Both are Alameda residents.
The preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian was crossing Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway as the motorist was making a westbound turn when the collision occurred. However, the exact cause of the collision has yet to be determined. The investigation is ongoing and we are unable to release additional information at this time. Our heartfelt condolences are with the pedestrian's loved ones and friends.
