Fatal Collision Investigation

On Tuesday, February 7, at approximately 7:30 am, Alameda Police Officers responded to the intersection of Marcuse Street and Mecartney Road following a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they located an adult male in the roadway. The man was transported by the Alameda Fire Department to a local hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle, an Alameda man, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. At this time, the official cause of the collision has yet to be determined. We are deeply saddened by the loss of a community member and send our sincerest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.

The City of Alameda is a Vision Zero city and holds post-collision site visits for all major and fatal collisions. In the coming weeks, city personnel from APD, Public Works, and Transportation Planning will review the collision site and details from the investigation and discuss potential safety interventions.
