Civic Center Garage improvements being implemented to increase safety,
Published on July 15, 2024
The City of Alameda is making improvements at the downtown Civic Center Parking Garage on Oak Street to make it a safer, cleaner, and more user-friendly experience for everyone. We're taking action to address concerns about vandalism, elevator service issues, loitering, and unsheltered encampments.
Recently Completed Improvements:
- Repaired elevator
- Upgraded stairwell lights to LED for better visibility
- Installed temporary fencing on the 1st and 5th floors to deter unwanted activity
Improvements planned for later this year:
- We plan to close the garage overnight to reduce vandalism. Please take this short survey (by July 24) to tell us what closing times work best for you: https://us.openforms.com/Form/b4220409-72bb-4624-8c62-86cf86ec7088
- The top floor will be reserved for City use only to prevent loitering
- Fencing on floors 2-5 will be installed for added security
- The interior of the garage and stairwells will be repainted to increase luminosity and create a brighter, more welcoming environment
- Parking kiosks on the 1st floor will be upgraded for mobile payments
- An upgrading parking guidance system will be installed to improve occupancy management
Thank you for your patience! We are committed to making the Civic Center Garage a safe and convenient place to park. If you have questions or need additional information, contact Ricardo De La Torre, Public Works Parking Manager, at 510-747-7923 or rdelatorre@alamedaca.gov.
