City of Alameda releases draft recommendations and community survey from the community-led Committee on Police Reform and Racial Equity
Today the City of Alameda released draft recommendations from the community-led Committee on Police Reform and Racial Equity for public review and feedback at www.alamedaca.gov/policing. Recommendations from five subcommittees cover the following areas:
- Unbundling Services Currently Delivered by the Police Department
- A Review of Police Department Policies and Practices
- Police Department Accountability and Oversight
- A Review of Laws that Criminalize Survival
- Systemic and Community Racism/Anti-Racism
People who live, work, or pray in Alameda, whose children go to school in Alameda, or who visit Alameda, are invited to review the draft recommendations and take a community survey. The survey will close on February 21, 2021.
On Friday, January 22, at 6:30pm, the City will host a community forum with the Committee on Police Reform and Racial Equity, where members of the public will hear Committee members present their draft recommendations and have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
Members of the public can also participate in presentations on the draft recommendations at the following public meetings:
- January 27, 2021: Transportation Commission
- January 28, 2021: Social Service and Human Relations Board
- February 10, 2021: Commission on Persons with Disabilities

Following a month-long community engagement period, draft recommendations will be presented to the Alameda City Council on March 16, 2021.
