City and AUSD to Host 7th Annual Youth Career & Job Fair

Wednesday, March 29, 1 to 4 pm, Encinal Jr. Sr. High School Gym

The City of Alameda and Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) are excited to announce the return of the annual Youth Career & Job Fair on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, from 1 to 4 pm at the Encinal Jr. Sr. High School Gymnasium (210 Central Avenue).

During the event, which is free to all high school students in Alameda, students can apply for summer jobs, paid internships, and community service positions. Additionally, students can discuss educational offerings with Peralta Community Colleges representatives, and explore vocational education opportunities.

The Youth Career & Job Fair is co-sponsored by Alameda County Supervisor Lena Tam, the City of Alameda, AUSD, Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth, and their Families, and Alameda Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development Alliance.

“This event connects local and regional businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations with talented students who are eager to gain real world work experience and explore different career choices,” said Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft. “We are pleased to partner with AUSD and Supervisor Tam’s office to help students see the connection between their education and viable career paths.”

"We created the Youth Career & Job Fair because we want to provide students with more opportunities to gain work experience either while they're in high school or right after they graduate," said AUSD Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi. "We especially want to bring more career training opportunities to our students who may not be committed to attending a four-year college right after high school. I am very excited about resuming the Career Fair again this year."

A Resume Help Desk will be available for students seeking guidance on how to format or update their resume. Students who bring a resume to the Youth Career & Job Fair will be eligible for a drawing to win a pair of special entertainment tickets made available through Supervisor Tam’s Office.

Employers and organizations offering summer jobs/educational opportunities may register for a free table at the March 29 event at https://tinyurl.com/YouthCareerFair2023 or by contacting Eric Fonstein at the City of Alameda at efonstein@alamedaca.gov or Felicia Vargas at Alameda Unified School District at fvargas@alamedaunified.org
