CITY OF ALAMEDA / ALAMEDA COUNTY ― Caltrans will be upgrading traffic signals with accessible pedestrian signals on Encinal Avenue (SR-61) at two intersections in Alameda July 30 and 31, enhancing safety for pedestrians and wheelchair users.

Work will be taking place at the intersection of Encinal Avenue and Oak Street on Tuesday, July 30 and at the intersection of Encinal Avenue and Broadway on Wednesday, July 31. Work will be performed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The work will necessitate temporary sidewalk and lane closures to accommodate the work.

The work is part of an overall project that includes upgrading existing curb ramps, enhancing crosswalk markings and installing vehicle speed feedback signs. This project also incorporates Complete Streets elements, which includes the conversion of the existing two through lanes to one through lane in each direction, a center two-way left-turn lane, two Class II bicycle lanes, and parking within the project limits.

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize inconvenience. We thank the traveling public for your patience as we work to enhance the Bay Area’s highways, bridges and tunnels.
