Beyond Black History Month: African Americans and the Vote

Local historian Rasheed Shabazz will lead a presentation on the political history of Alameda, building on the national theme for Black History Month, "African Americans and the Vote." The year 2020 marks 150 years since the 15th Amendment enabled Black men to vote and 100 years since the 19th amendment and voting rights for women. This presentation will focus on local, regional, national, and global Black politics. A question and answer discussion will follow.

This program will be held on Sunday, March 1, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm in the Stafford Room at the Main Library.

Alameda Free Library is located at 1550 Oak Street and is wheelchair accessible. The Main Library is served by AC Transit routes 21 and 51A. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library.
