Last spring, the Alameda City Council unanimously approved a $75,000 hiring incentive for police officers. Determined to strengthen the department, City Manager Jennifer Ott used past salary savings instead of new funding to create this highest-in-the-nation incentive and has successfully turned recruitment trends around without lowering standards. By June, the Alameda Police Department’s entire patrol division will be filled, reversing a 30 percent deficit in officers and improving response times, community outreach, traffic safety, and crime prevention.

Alameda’s $75,000 hiring incentive has attracted significant interest from across the country and allows the police department to select the best and further diversify the agency. Officers receive the first $25,000 after being sworn in and an additional $50,000 after completing the field training program. Interested people can view available jobs and apply today. The $75,000 incentive will remain in place until the City fills its vacancies.

Media interviews with Alameda Police Chief are welcome and can be scheduled with PIO Sarah Henry at shenry@alamedaca.gov or 510-747-4714.
