Event descriptions – ongoing events:

Teen Advisory Board: Do you wish the library would do more events and programs that you’re interested in? Have you been anxiously awaiting a new book and you want the library to buy it? Do you need an impressive membership to put on your applications and resumes? Join the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to let the library know what you’re interested in. The Teen Advisory Board is your chance to make a difference in the library for yourself and other teens in Alameda. Members of the Teen Advisory Board will plan be involved in planning Teen programs and choose teen events. Teen Advisory Board members will earn community service hours for every meeting and event that they participate in. Food will be provided.

  • Teen Book Club: Teen book club members choose what we read each month and every book club member gets a free copy of the book to keep. This month’s book title is This Was Our Pact by Ryan Andrews. All teens, ages 13 to 18, are invited to join the book group.
  • Lawyers in the Library: The Lawyers in the Library program provides free 15 minute consultations with a volunteer attorney who will provide guidance on legal matters. Examples of areas covered include landlord/tenant disputes, probate matters, employment problems and other general consumer issues. Please see online calendar for dates and locations.

  • Handicrafts Group: An informal, fun gathering to make new friends and relax at the library. We welcome beginners, experts, and all those in-between. Bring your needles, crochet hooks and yarn or other supplies. No registration required.

  • Alameda Library Book Club: The Alameda Library Book Club meets every 2nd Monday at the Alameda Free Library. Everyone is welcome to participate.

  • Alameda Great Books Club: Everyone is welcome! This book group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Family Study Room, at the Main Library.

  • MAC User Group: Want to learn more about Apple technologies? User groups offer members the chance to become friends with other Apple product users, get questions answered, and have a lot of fun. Open to everyone, from first-time computer users to experts - from every profession, background and age.

  • Alameda Library Writers’ Group: This group is open to all adult writers looking for a space to work and an opportunity to connect and share with other writers. Whatever your genre - you are welcome to join the group. Bring your ideas and laptop (or pencil and paper) and start writing. Please enter quietly. Sharing at the end for those interested.

  • A Cup of Coffee and a Good Book Club: Monthly book discussions on a wide variety of books and topics. Please call the Bay Farm Island Library at (510) 747-7787 for information on this month's topic/theme.

  • Study Abroad 101: Sunday, December 15, 2019, 2:00 PM. Learn everything you need to know about studying abroad! Get tips, tricks, and even packing advice from a UC San Diego student who recently studied abroad. Teens and adults welcome.
  • Exam Cram: Monday, December 16, 2019 through Thursday, December 19, 2019, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Study Rooms full? Cramming for finals? Bring your study groups and work to the library! We’ll provide snacks, seating, outlets, and Wi-Fi! For teens.
