Integrated Waste

The City of Alameda has long been a leader in recycling and composting, where residents and businesses are careful to sort their discards into the correct containers, effectively diverting 76% of all waste from the landfill.

Businesses and multifamily properties of 5 units or more must have adequate recycling and composting service. Enforcement of this ordinance began January 1, 2015. The City of Alameda is a fully opted-in jurisdiction of the County's Mandatory Recycling Ordinance.
