The Alameda Free Library in conjunction with the CAL Alumni Association, Chinese Chapter, is pleased to present the film “Autumn Gem.” Join us on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Regina K. Stafford Room at the Main Library, 1550 Oak Street.
“Autumn Gem” is a documentary about Qiu Jin, a radical Chinese women’s rights activist and revolutionary leader, who attempted an armed uprising against the corrupt Qing Dynasty. Qiu Jin was eventually arrested and executed; becoming the first female martyr for China’s 1911 Revolution. She is still celebrated as a national heroine in China today.
In this hour long film, Qiu Jin’s story is vividly brought to life through interviews, archives, and dramatic reenactments.
“Autumn Gem” stars former Chinese National Martial Arts Champion and Hollywood stunt actress, Li Jing. The Film is produced and directed by Bay Area filmmakers Rae Chan and Adam Tow. After the viewing, filmmakers will be available to take questions from the audience.
Admission to this program is free and refreshments will be provided by the CAL Alumni Association. For more information please contact the Reference Department at 510-747-7713.
