Meet the Chiefs




Chief Olson joined the Fire Department as a Firefighter in 1986.  He promoted to Apparatus Operator in 1995, then Lieutenant in 1997, and served three years as the Assistant Training Director. He was promoted to Captain in 1999 then to Division Chief in 2007.  Before becoming a Chief Officer, Chief Olson served on the Alameda Firefighters Association Executive Board.  In 2011 he became the Administrative Division Chief and Fire Marshal, responsible for fire prevention, emergency medical service, and oversight of the Training Division.


Chief Olson received his Associate Degree in Fire Technology from Los Medanos College.  Currently he is nearing the completion of his Bachelor Degree in Emergency Readiness and Response Management from the National College in Maryland.  Chief Olson is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Cal Chiefs, and the National Fire Protection Association as a member of NFPA 1917 (Standards of Automotive Ambulance) Technical Committee.


Chief Olson was raised in Contra Costa County, where he resides with his wife and teenage children.  In his free time he enjoys staying active and participating in activities with his family.  He is also a drummer for the California Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums.
