Alameda's sister cities are Lidingo, Sweden; Arita, Japan; and Wuxi, China.
Lidingö is a green island adjacent to Stockholm. Lindigo is an excellent spot for outdoor recreation and has scenic jogging and biking paths, numerous hiking trails and bridle paths, and an excellent 18-hole golf course. Lindigo is also birthplace to Raoul Wallenberg, First Secretary of the Swedish legation in Budapest in 1944, who rescued thousands of Hungarian Jews.
Arita, a quiet mountain town located in a western part of the Saga Prefecture, is the cradle of porcelain manufacture in Japan. Beautiful designs in bright colors like red, yellow, green, and blue on a white background characterize Arita ware and continue to be loved around the world.
