Sister Cities

Alameda's sister cities are Lidingo, Sweden; Arita, Japan; and Wuxi, China.

Lidingö is a green island adjacent to Stockholm. Lindigo is an excellent spot for outdoor recreation and has scenic jogging and biking paths, numerous hiking trails and bridle paths, and an excellent 18-hole golf course. Lindigo is also birthplace to Raoul Wallenberg, First Secretary of the Swedish legation in Budapest in 1944, who rescued thousands of Hungarian Jews.

Arita, a quiet mountain town located in a western part of the Saga Prefecture, is the cradle of porcelain manufacture in Japan. Beautiful designs in bright colors like red, yellow, green, and blue on a white background characterize Arita ware and continue to be loved around the world.

Wuxi, sometimes referred to as "Little Shanghai" lies in the central Yangtze River Delta on the southeast coast of China. It is a coastal city of Jiangsu Province with a total population of 4.3 million including 1.06 million in its city proper. Wuxi has green hills, blue water, fresh air, fascinating scenery and is a modern city, boasting a complete transportation network, and many research institutes, universities and colleges.
